I come from a long line of firefighting men, so it was a pretty easy decision for me when I was faced with the choice of becoming a fireman too, or striking out on my own. Some people balk when it comes to embracing their family destiny, but the idea of being a fireman has always been in my heart. Now me, my father, and my brother all work at the same station. All of this adds together to make for one excited young firefighter when I found this place online that sells really awesome fireman shirts.
Right after 9-11, the country went a little firefighter-nuts. For once, every firefighter had the opportunity to feel like a hero. People would come up to me and thank me for my service, even though I was nowhere near New York when the towers fell. Part of me felt like I was stealing glory I hadn't earned, but another part of me appreciated the sentiment with all my heart. I have, thankfully, never lost a family member to an on-the-job accident while fighting fires. I have lost a couple of really close friends over the years. No matter how much protective equipment you put on your body, fire and smoke are lethal. People die all of the time saving people from fires...and we're trained professionals. There were several great fireman shirts on the Website that were geared towards honoring fallen comrades, and I picked one up for myself.
I suddenly realize I'm turning this review of an online shirt site into a morose look at some pretty dark times in my past, but that's not how it is for the vast majority of the time. Most of the time being at the station feels like being with family, and we work in a community that really appreciates us. I found some really light-hearted fireman t-shirts for us to wear at fund-raising and community events that are going to get some smiles, for sure.
