From Flats To Flattering In Women's Designer Shoes

Although we love the way heels accentuate our legs, you can hear a collective sigh of relief this summer that cute and sassy low-heeled alternatives are turning flats into flattering in women's fashion footwear.

Women's fashion is still going wild for animal print with ballet pumps available in prints, fabrics and styles. Tony Burch's Reva and Eddie use animal print in both tasty tones and luxurious leathers, Bank Two add strap detail to their pumps and Guiseppe Zanotti add skull and bones to their already sassy leopard print for an edgy pump. Natural materials are a fashion favourite with suede, as usual, coming out on top, this include varieties from Lanvin and Ralph Lauren, TopShop and Salvatore Ferragamo go bright with shiny leather in loud hues, French Sole and Pieces slither towards snake skin and Marc by Marc Jacobs and Alaa try out their latest pumps in calf hair.

Although mannish in their origin, the now androgynous Brogues have taken on a new life in women's designer fashion, supporting a raft of different genres from preppy college chic or boho glam to super smart power dressing. Seen this season sporting styles for every occasion, there are animal prints in zebra from Miu Miu or leopard from Christian Louboutin, contrast two-tone colours from N.D.C and Sonia by Sonia Rykiel, studded from Bloch and traditional pitted design from Church's Classic Burwood.

From shoes to boots, the flat comfortable sole effortlessly blends into sleek ankle boots when styled by American designer, Mark McNairy. McNairy's all black Chelsea boot stays true to its traditional roots but brings a modern cool with its suede finish while Won Hundred's Freddie lace-ups embody ankle trend this season. Also combining style and comfort, this time by blending an ankle high top with sneakers, are Jimmy Choo's Tokyo with leopard print in suede, Gucci's embossed wool and leather and Miu Miu's patent leather high tops, all in dark hues or Pointer's Hannah in the soothing tones of Pussywillow with fold down top and contrasting sole. Sneakers or authentic pumps and plimsolls still form an essential part of the summer wardrobe in a kaleidoscope of colours from Classics Superga range, Converse All Stars and Keds.

For those of us still clinging to the final remains of summer there are flip flops available in a wide range of catchy colours thanks to Firetrap and Ed Hardy, Miss Trish Splash use animal print and Havaianas and Missoni both go for colourful styles and design to brighten up your day when the sunshine fails. Scholl's Band flats are naturally comfortable with their wooden soles and Swedish Hasbeens utilize the brands trademark handmade luxury in both their ballerina pumps and sandals. Gladiator sandals by J.Crew's Quorra are popular alongside the embellished design Bliss from Jimmy Choo and the patent leather and gold in Roberto Cavalli.

For closed shoes but keeping in line with the summer style are canvas espadrilles in Marley by Asos, Toms University creates a statement with blocks of hues, loud colours by Superdry and Office and floral designs from Bounty. Keep the summer alive with water side footwear in Sperry's Authentic boat shoes, N.D.C. and YMC in neutral canvas or statement print deck shoes from Navajo.
